Vito Acconci, Murinsel
The Murinsel in Graz, Austria, is actually not an island at all, but an artificial floating platform in the middle of the Mur river. This landmark of Graz was designed by New York artist Vito Acconci on the occasion of Graz becoming the 2003 European Capital of Culture.
American designer, landscape architect, performance and installation artist Vito Hannibal Acconci was born in the The Bronx, New York in 1940. Acconci studied at the Regis High School in New York City and received a B.A. in literature from the College of the Holy Cross in 1962 and later an M.F.A. in literature and poetry from the University of Iowa. He started his career as a poet and later changed to a performance and video artist. The Acconci Studio was founded in 1988 and focused on architecture and landscape design. Vito Acconci died in 2017.
